MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 4 is a solvent cutback, water-displacing corrosion preventative compound that leaves a coating that is amber in color, translucent, waxy and "non-tacky" (dry-to-the-touch).

INTENDED USE:
For general purpose indoor and limited outdoor preservation of corrodible metals with or without an overwrap and where handling, stacking and counting requires a tack-free coating.  For storage protection of precision parts, machine tools, pistons, valves, and where a transparent coating is required in addition to properties indicated in item (a) above.
For protection of machinery and parts designated for export and where salt spray contamination is likely to occur. Where there is not requirement for miscibility with lubricating oil and, where ease of removal with stoddard’s solvent (P-D-680) is important.

APPLICATION:
Can be applied via spray, dip or brush. MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 4 can be applied by dipping the parts to be protected in a vat or spraying the parts to be protected with air sprayers, pump type sprayers or by pouring the product over the parts. Ensure uniform consistency prior to use. Recommended surface preparation: surface should be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil and mill scale.

REMOVAL:
Removal of protective films is accomplished by using a steam cleaner or washing the parts in mineral spirits, solvent thinner, vapor degreaser, or hot alkaline wash.
