MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 3 is a solvent cutback, water displacing corrosion preventive compound. The semi-firm film is amber and translucent. The products cured film is compatible with a variety of oils and greases.

INTENDED USE:
For use where water or saline solution must be displaced from corrodible surfaces and the corrosion prevented or arrested.  For protection of metallic surfaces of machinery interior instruments , or parts under cover for limited periods.  For the protection of critical bare steel or phosphate surfaces for extended periods when packaged with suitable barrier materials.
PLEASE NOTE: Use grade 5 on metal(s) which may be attacked by an alkaline treatment during the preservative removal stage. The chemical “bell-out” is alkaline and its use should be avoided with such materials as aluminum and magnesium alloys.

APPLICATION:
Can be applied via spray, dip or brush. MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 3 can be applied by dipping the parts to be protected in a vat or spraying the parts to be protected with air sprayers, pump type sprayers or by pouring the product over the parts. Ensure uniform consistency prior to use. Recommended surface preparation: surface should be clean, dry, and free of rust, oil and mill scale.

REMOVAL:
Removal of protective films is accomplished by using a steam cleaner or washing the parts in mineral spirits, solvent thinner, vapor degreaser, or hot alkaline wash.
